Burns visited the ruins of Roxburgh Castle fought over many times by the Scots and English and from where you can view Floors Castle, the largest inhabited mansion in Scotland. In 2008 an unplublished copy of 'On Seeing A Wounded Hare' and a letter by Burns were discovered in the archives at Floors.

Burns was presented with the freedom of the burgh. There is a plaque on the house where he stayed.

Burns and Ainslie made Royal Arch Masons of St Ebbes Lodge. There is a plaque here. The Eyemouth Lodge are said to have kept the cutlery he used.

Burns buys an old mare he calls Jenny Geddes and he and his law student friend Robert Ainslie take off for a tour of the Scottish Borders, Lothians and Northern England. His first tour taken of the three.

The two were good friends united in song, interests, their love of the ladies and social skills with Ainslie having good connections for future subscriptions to Burns work.

As they crossed the Coldstream Bridge over the River Tweed and into England, Burns knelt to the ground and blessed Scotland with his last two stanzas of Cottars Saturday Night.

MELROSE

Burns visits Melrose Abbey. Probably the most famous ruin in Scotland. Where Robert the Bruce's heart is buried and marked with a stone plaque.
