GREENOCK
THE SHIP SAILED
Burns planned to meet Highland Mary in Greenock but alas it was never to happen as Mary and their baby died before this. The ships Burns should have sailed in from Greenock to Jamaica never set sail as planned.

Around the same time, the publication of Burns poetry was to take off and so the sailing from Greenock was never to take place. When Burns toured the West Highlands he visited Highland Mary's grave. Today it is with a Memorial.
In 1802, six years after Burns death, Greenock held the first Burns supper. Who is to say how things may have altered if the ship had sailed ...
O sweet grows the lime and the orange
And the apple on the pine
But a' the charms o' the Indies
Can never equal thine ...
Will Ye Go To The Indies My Mary
GREENOCK THE SHIP SAILED
